When we make a decision that affects someone other than ourselves, it may be a good idea to take some time and Think Things Through in what I call the “3T’s.” The more people who may be affected by your decision, the more the need to seek advice from others to gain insight and different points of view before you decide what to do. President Biden signed a slew of executive orders the day he was sworn in that made me question if he followed the 3 T’s? One was closing construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. CNN Business Report suggests the number of construction jobs lost on the pipeline is about 3,900, not the 11,000 the New York Post suggested. However, the CNN Business Report also suggested the loss of 42,000 service jobs related to the project with average wages of $47,000 per year. The bottom line is that about 48,000 jobs were lost and perhaps even more. The Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, suggested that there will be good-paying union jobs in Green Energy for those who were laid off. The only problem is these people do not have a place to go to find a new job in Green Energy for perhaps many years. Three questions need to be asked of the President. First, did you speak to the public officials in the states affected by the decision, and what about the union leadership? Second, did you talk to the Canadian government leaders for their input? Did you think about how do these people will pay their bills and feed their families while they wait for one of those good-paying Green Energy jobs? It was more critical to rescind a President Trump order and not think about his actions’ consequences.
Based on President Biden’s response after signing his executive order, he didn’t speak to any of the potential people or governments who were adversely affected by his decision. In a Rasmussen poll of registered voters taken after his decision, two-thirds of voters disagreed with his decision.
Next is Climate Change and the rejoining of the Paris Accord. President Biden wants us back in the Accord. He should have asked what the other signers did to comply with the requirements when America was out of the Accord. The Accord’s most recent report shows that of the 197 signers of the Accord, only 16 met their commitment, just over 8%.
Has the Accord been a success after 5 years? If a grade is awarded to the Paris pact “based on whether we have any prospect of meeting a 2°C, (2 degrees Celsius) target, from that point of view, it’s probably a D or an F,” says Michael Oppenheimer, a climate scientist and policy expert at Princeton University. The climate cash fund, which was designed to provide funding to implement changes in the world’s carbon footprint, has received pledges from 27 of the 197 countries that signed the Accord. The fund had a funding target of $100 billion by the end of 2020; the current cash balance of the Green Cash Fund based on the most recently released numbers is $6.9 billion. This is another example of President Biden’s executive order that I believe was released to placate certain party constituents, with little attention paid as to whether the program should’ve been reinstated. I’m not convinced that the execution of the executive order was anything more than for show.
Another example of Biden not Thinking Things Through is stopping the construction of the border wall and stopping the deportation of illegal immigrants convicted of a felony. Stopping the border wall construction will allow an influx of foreign nationals with no medical history to come into this country and possibly carry COVID-19. We have caravans of people heading north to the American border. Are we going to try and test everybody crossing the border illegally for COVID-19? If they do test positive, will we send them back to Mexico? How does Mexico feel about possibly getting people back into their country who tested positive for? The President of Mexico now has COVID-19, and Mexico has 1.76 million cases and 150,000 deaths or a mortality rate of 8.5%. The United States has a mortality rate of 1.6%. Ask yourself this question, if you were in Mexico would you want them back? If we start testing at all border crossings, will we have to take these immigrants who test positive into the American medical system, which is already stretched to the point of collapse? There are many more examples of decisions already made by the Biden administration without thinking through, the three T’s. President Biden, Think Things Through before you make your final decision.
